Hey!
Glad you found your way here. My name is Thomas and I’m the founder of this magazine for slow travel and hidden gems. I’ve been living in Munich since 2019 and after settling in, I thought: why not write a guide for others who are new to Munich and looking for inspiration for day trips off the usual tourist spots? That’s how dailytrip.de got started.
Over time the website has grown, as I started documenting my individual travels as well. Since 2023 you’ll also find travel inspiration for long-term and independent travelers.
For me, travel isn’t just about seeing new places โ it’s about the people and cultures I encounter along the way. That connection is what makes it all worthwhile. That’s why I consciously travel as a slow traveler, taking my time rather than rushing from one place to the next.
I’ve also been lucky enough to travel through Southeast Asia three times now. Countries like Laos, Thailand and Malaysia have left a lasting impression on me and only made me want to keep exploring.
These experiences and personal stories are what I share on Dailytrip. But I’ve also discovered some great spots in my adopted home of Bavaria โ I love hiking and exploring places well away from the usual tourist attractions.
My goal is to inspire you and show you the world from my perspective. Not just travel stories, but practical tips that can make your own trips truly memorable.
My travel style: Slow travel and flashpacking
Pretty quickly on my first long trip I realized I’m not a classic backpacker โ not even close. I’ve reached the point where sleeping in a hostel dorm with 15 other people is just too exhausting. I need my own space to retreat to, whether that’s a private room in a hostel or a hotel.
Pretty quickly on my first long trip I realized I’m not a classic backpacker โ not even close. I’ve reached the point where sleeping in a hostel dorm with 15 other people is just too exhausting. I need my own space to retreat to, whether that’s a private room in a hostel or a hotel.
I also tend to travel with way too much camera gear to comfortably fit into a dorm locker. And backpacks are simply not for me. I tried one for a month-long trip in Asia and ended up lugging two bags everywhere โ never again. Since then I’ve traveled with a regular wheeled suitcase and it’s taken me to some surprisingly remote places without any issues.
If you’d also call yourself a flashpacker, you’ll probably find a tip or two here that works for you.
I’ve also learned over time that slow travel matters more to me than covering ground.
I used to tick off one spot after another, only to realize I hadn’t really enjoyed any of them. Spending several weeks or even months in places like Bangkok, Kaohsiung or Seoul has shown me how much more you get out of a place when you actually stay.
A little more about me
I’ve always been drawn to nature and spending time outdoors. As a kid, I was constantly in the woods building treehouses with friends. These days, like most people, I mostly manage day trips and hikes on weekends thanks to work.
Before moving to Munich, I lived near Baden-Baden with the Black Forest right on my doorstep. Bavaria, with the Alps, is a good substitute. I wouldn’t call myself an extreme hiker, though. I prefer relaxed day trips and easier trails.
I also have a real passion for photography, which seems to be the perfect hobby for slow travel. I always bring my camera along and try to capture the small moments that make each trip unique.
I hope my stories and impressions can take you along on my travels and give you a genuine look into these adventures.
My motivation and values behind Dailytrip
Since I plan all my trips and day trips independently, I wanted to go beyond simple recommendations and share complete itineraries and day trip ideas as a source of inspiration. That’s also why my guides tend to be on the longer side.
The content focuses mainly on travel tips and hidden gems – places that aren’t immediately obvious when you arrive, or spots that are still genuinely off the radar.
Until the end of 2022, I focused exclusively on day trips in Bavaria and around Munich. Since 2023 the site has been steadily growing to cover more destinations around the world.
My values:
- Honest impressions: I don’t sugarcoat things. What I share reflects the reality of my trips – the good and the less good.
- Hidden gems: I point you toward places away from the tourist crowds. Lesser-known spots that are absolutely worth visiting.
- Slow Travel: I want to actually experience cultures, not just pass through them. Slowing down matters to me.
- Not everything goes to plan: I share the challenges alongside the highlights so you’re better prepared for your own trips.
- Sustainability: I travel independently and avoid mass tourism wherever possible. I try to treat the cultures and nature I encounter with care and respect.
